Kairouan, is a city of the center of Tunisia and the chief town of the governorship of the same name.
It is regarded as the 4th Holy City of Islam. It is populated of 117.903 inhabitants (census of 20041). Its medina figure with the world inheritance of UNESCO since 1988. Kairouan is famous for its artisanal carpets and its pastry makings of which makrouds. It is in Kairouan that the painter Paul Klee has this luminous revelation: “The color has me. There is no need to seek to seize it. It has me, I know it. Here is the direction of the happy moment: the color and me let us be one. I am a painter. ”
